Frankfurt City Cemetery

One of the prettiest and serene spots in Frankfurt to take a stroll is the main cemetery – the Hauptfriedhof. You can’t take your dog or ride your bike, but having a camera is a must as it is beautiful, especially with the flowers blooming now.

If you haven’t been to the Frankfurt Cemetery, you might set aside a bit of time to go, especially if you enjoy photography. This is a treasure trove of beautiful statuary, carvings, trees, light, and shadow and really lends itself as an ideal place to spend a few hours strolling around. Add it to your private, layover, or group tour with Frankfurt on Foot, if you would like to see this peaceful, beautiful spot in Frankfurt. No matter the season, you will be impressed by the beauty to be found here.

The cemetery is easy to reach by taking the U-5 from the Konstablerwache direction Preungesheim to the stop, Hauptfriedhof which is directly in front of the main entrance to the cemetery.

The Cemetery is huge, so give yourself enough time to walk around. There are some interesting mausoleums there, as well as a very long “Gruft Halle” or Crypt Hall.

The Cemetery or “Hauptfriedhof” is open every day and closes at dusk. If you have questions about visiting here, please send us an email and we will be happy to help you out.

The American Kinderfeld (American Children’s’ Graves) is located here in section XIV. More information about this section can be found on the Kinderfeld Facebook page.
